Dealer Certification - An Overview
Dealer license for weights and measures is a required authorization given by the Legal Metrology Department to those who deal directly or otherwise in the business of selling, supplying, or distributing Weights and measuring instruments for cash, commission, or remuneration.
As per the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, a dealer is defined as someone who deals directly or does business in weights and measuring equipment.
In order to become such a dealer, one must obtain the authorized Dealer certificate from the Legal Metrology Department. This license is mandatory for:
- Licenses for a manufacturer willing to act as a dealer for a commodity
- License for an importer willing to act as a dealer for a commodity.
In terms of non-legal jargon, manufacturers and importers of weights and measuring products that also want to conduct business with them must acquire a dealer license.
Process OF - Dealer Certificate
- Get the application for Dealer Certification from the LMPC
- Fill out the application form
- Attach the required documents
- Submit the application to the LMPC along with the fee
- Get the license.
Documents Required for Dealer Certificate
To obtain the Dealer Certification, you must provide the following documents.
- Certificate of incorporation
- Other business licenses pertaining to your business
- A duly filled application form
- DD of the application fee
- Details you’re required to input on the display pane of the package.
Identity and Address Proof
- Scanned copy of PAN card or passport (foreign nationals & NRIs)
- Scanned copy of voter ID/passport/driving licence
- Scanned copy of the latest bank statement/telephone or mobile bill/electricity or gas bill
- Scanned passport-sized photograph specimen signature (blank document with signature [directors only])
Registered Office Proof
- Scanned copy of the latest bank statement/telephone or mobile bill/electricity or gas bill
- Scanned copy of notarized rental agreement in English
- Scanned copy of no-objection certificate from the property owner
- Scanned copy of sale deed/property deed in English (in case of owned property)
Note: Your registered office need not be a commercial space; it can be your residence too.
