What is Service Tax?

If you are providing any taxable Service in India and your turnover goes beyond Rs. 10 Lakh then Service Tax Registration is compulsory. Service Tax is indirect tax wherein the provider of Service pays tax and collect it from the receiver. At present the rate of Service tax is 15% which includes Krishi Kalyan Cess @ 0.5% and Swachh Bharat Cess @ 0.5%.

Service Tax Return in India

Service Tax return is required to be filled half yearly in form ST-3. The first return for half year ending 30th September is to be filled by 25th October and the return for second half year 31st March is required to be filled by 25th April.

Following documents are required to be submitted for Service Tax Registration:
  • Scanned copy of Voter's ID/Passport/Driver's License (Address Proof)
  • Scanned passport-sized photograph
  • PAN Card of Company or Partnership
  • Board Resolution, in case of company
  • Bank Statement not older than 3 months and Cancelled Cheque.
  • Name of the proposed unit
  • Objects of business for which registration is required
